About Us

The Beardstown Christkindlmarkt brings the charm and tradition of European Christmas markets to the heart of our small town. Inspired by traditional German holiday markets, visitors are invited to stroll through festive wooden chalets filled with unique gifts, enjoy seasonal food and warm drinks, and experience the magic of the Christmas season surrounded by twinkling lights and holiday cheer.

Christkindlmarkts have been celebrated throughout Germany and Austria for centuries, where communities gather outdoors to shop for handcrafted goods, share festive treats, and celebrate the spirit of the season. These markets are known for their cozy atmosphere, traditional foods, and the simple joy of coming together during the holidays.

The Beardstown Christkindlmarkt began as a way to bring visitors to our historic downtown square and encourage them to explore and support our local brick-and-mortar businesses during the holiday season. What started as a small idea has quickly grown into a beloved Beardstown holiday tradition. In our first year, the market opened with just four chalets. The following year we expanded to ten, then fifteen in year three. By our fourth season the market had grown to twenty chalets, and last year we welcomed twenty-one chalets along with several exciting additions, including a new Grillhaus, welcoming entrance signs at the market corners, and a newly enclosed and heated gazebo to give visitors another cozy place to gather.

As we celebrate our sixth year in 2026, the market continues to grow. This season will introduce a larger and improved Hot Cocoa and Glühwein Chalet, making it even easier for guests to warm up and enjoy one of the most beloved traditions of any Christmas market.

We have also been incredibly blessed with a dedicated team of local “markt elves” who generously volunteer their time, creativity, and energy to help bring the Christkindlmarkt to life each year.

With small-town charm and a welcoming atmosphere, the Beardstown Christkindlmarkt offers visitors a chance to shop locally, support artisans and vendors, and create meaningful holiday memories with family and friends. From charming chalets and festive music to warm hot cocoa, glühwein, and cozy gathering spaces, the market is a celebration of Old-World Christmas tradition and the warmth of community during the most magical time of year.
